Myofascial Release is a safe and effective manual technique used to stretch the fascia. When the fascia is stretched a thin sheath of fibrous tissue enclosing the muscle will release the bonds between fascia, muscle, bones, and the skin.

What creates Myofascial restrictions?

Trauma, inflammatory responses, and/or surgical procedures create Myofascial restrictions can produce pain and loss of mobility. During a trauma, inflammatory responses, and/or surgical procedures the maximum amount of stress your fascia can handle may be reached which can increase your pain sensitivity. Using Myofascial release techniques, you can relieve pain and increase mobility. Some Myofascial release techniques involve stretching, elongating fascia and mobilizing adhesive tissue.

Conditions that benefit from Myofascial release:

Many conditions benefit from Myofascial release. The most common being back pain and neck pain caused by spinal herniated disc, spondylosis, arthritis or scoliosis. Myofascial release can help with shoulder and elbow pain due to frozen shoulder, tendonitis and repetitive strain injuries; also, hip and lower extremity pain due to sciatica, plantar fasciitis or arthritis. Orthopedic conditions, tinnitus, neurological conditions can all benefit from Myofascial release.

While Myofascial release is similar to Active Release Technique there are several important distinctions and some conditions respond better to one or the other. For this reason, the practitioners at Dynamic Chiropractic and Sports Therapy Center have received training in both techniques and will use a thorough history and exam to decide which technique will work best for each patient.
